Alaskan Deep Fried Halibut
Aunt Mickey | Jan. 5, 2021, 12:44 a.m.
Grandma says this originally came from her Aunt Betty Gaylor (Grandma Wolfe's sister, Judy Pratt's mom, Kathy Surcouf's grandma, etc.)
Ingredients
1 1/2 lb Halibut fillets, no skin
1 egg, beaten
1 c Bisquick
1 t salt
1/2 c beer, room temp
2 quarts peanut oil (can use vegetable oil but peanut is so much better!)
Directions
Cut halibut into 1"x 2-3" pieces. Whisk egg, Bisquick, salt and beer together. Should be the consistency of pancake batter. Let batter rest 10 minutes. Heat oil to medium high (375 degrees). Dredge halibut in batter and drop into hot oil. (May have to fry in batches depending on how large the pot is.) Fry until golden brown. Remove from oil onto paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and serve.
(We fried it outside in the turkey fryer we use on Thanksgiving.)
